ome is a welcome sight after any trip, and the sight of the castle cheered me. Highest in my thoughts was Fina, but it would be good to see Breck and Kean again as well.
I found Fina in the library. She sat reading, Mauserk’s historic accounts stacked beside her. The creak of the door betrayed me, and she roused.
I drew her into my arms, and she melted under my kisses. I kissed her neck, felt the soft curve of her hip with my hand. I said, “I missed you,” and she replied, “And I, you.”
Of course, I am exaggerating slightly. Even though I know how she feels, I am still made awkward by worry that a misstep will change her mind. But my description is not far off.
Then she said, “But, ahh, ” and she held her nose. “The road has put a fine stink on you.”
She invited me to her room for a bath. “I will have Nora draw it. Wait for her to leave, and then come.”
As we bathed together, she washed and the soapy water slicked her. I kissed her belly, and she slid her hands through my hair. She said, “I have a surprise for you.”
I said, “Tell me,” between kisses. Then, a worry seized me. I pulled back, touched her belly, and then met her eyes.
ina had a ripe good laugh at my concern.
